What is the difference?
As-found vintage is the original garment, cleaned and sold in its original cut with its original wear. Reworked is that same garment taken apart and remade — cropped, re-panelled, repaired — into a new one-of-one piece with the original fabric and labels. One preserves; the other transforms.
Which fits better?
Reworked, for most people, because the fit has been redesigned for how people dress now rather than for layering on a job site in 1994. As-found fits the way it always did — boxy and long — which some buyers want exactly.
Which is more 'authentic'?
Both are authentic Carhartt fabric and labels. As-found is authentic to the original cut; reworked is honest about being remade. The dishonest option is a reproduction sold as vintage, which is neither.
Which holds value better?
Clean as-found pieces from the 1980s and 1990s appreciate as collectors' items. Reworked pieces hold value as one-of-one garments and often sell faster to fashion buyers. A damaged as-found piece loses to both — which is exactly the garment that reworking rescues.
Which should a reseller stock?
Both, if you can source both. As-found anchors the collector end of your rail; reworked brings in the streetwear buyer and sells well in photos. Our bundles are reworked, so they slot into the second role.
Why do you only sell reworked?
Because we are a studio, not a thrift store. We source garments that need work and give them a second life. We think the honest, well-made rework is the better product for most people, and we would rather be known for one thing done properly.
