What stock sells at a market?
Recognisable pieces at a glance: Carhartt jackets front and centre, double knees folded with the knee showing, tees in colour blocks. Markets reward brand recognition and touch — buyers want to feel the duck. Bring a range of sizes and have your best three pieces where people walk past.
How should I set up the stall?
Two rails at eye level, jackets facing out at the ends, pants folded on a table with the patch visible, tees in a crate by colour. A mirror. Clear price tags — buyers will not ask. Good light matters: a battery LED or a spot near a window makes faded duck look like itself.
How do I price on the day?
Round numbers, pre-tagged, with a bundle deal — two tees for a price, or a discount on a jacket plus pant. Leave yourself room to come down ten percent for a buyer holding two pieces. Have your online prices consistent so a buyer who checks their phone does not feel cheated.
Payments?
Card reader, phone payment and cash. Card readers pay for themselves on the first jacket. Note every sale by reference number so you can reconcile stock later.
How do I turn stall buyers into repeat customers?
A card or QR code to your Depop, Vinted or Instagram in every bag, and a photo of the rail posted the morning of the market. Tell buyers when the next market is. Market buyers who follow you online are the most loyal customers a vintage seller has.
How does wholesale fit with market selling?
Markets move volume in a day, which suits bundle buying — a 50-piece bundle can be most of a stall. Buy the bundle six weeks before the market season, list the best pieces online, and bring the rest to the stall.
