Is vintage Carhartt made for women?
Almost all vintage Carhartt is men's workwear — women's lines were small — so women buy men's sizes. That is not a problem: the boxy, oversized cut is exactly what makes it work, and reworked pieces are cut with that in mind.
Which men's size should I look at?
Measure a jacket you like and compare flat measurements rather than reading tags. As a starting point, a women's UK 8 to 12 usually suits a vintage men's small for a fitted-oversized look or a medium for fully oversized. Cropped reworks solve the length problem that makes men's jackets look like coats.
Which pieces are easiest to wear?
A cropped Detroit or Active Jac first — the crop fixes the proportions and the jacket works over dresses, high-waisted trousers and skirts. Then a K87 tee, worn oversized or cropped. Double knees and carpenters work with a belt and a cuff; many women size down and have them tapered.
How do I style a Carhartt jacket?
Oversized jacket over something fitted: a slim knit, a tank, a dress. Straight or wide-leg trousers with a high waist, or a midi skirt for the contrast between heavy canvas and lighter fabric. Boots or clean trainers. Keep the rest plain — the jacket is the piece.
Which colours work best?
Faded Carhartt brown and black are the most versatile. Off-white and stone Detroits are rarer and photograph beautifully. Moss and navy are easy to wear. Royal blue and camo are statement pieces.
Can you rework a jacket for a women's fit?
Yes — cropping is the main change, and we can shorten sleeves or take in the body on request. Tell us your measurements or those of a jacket that fits and we will cut to them.
