Carhartt brown is the original duck colourway and the one collectors chase first. It fades toward a warm tan at stress points rather than going grey, and it holds resale value better than any other colour in the range.
The Active Jac has been in continuous production since the 1980s under codes J130, J131 and J140. Pre-2000s examples carry a square white label and Union Made or Made in USA tags, use a heavier 12oz duck, and have deeper ribbed cuffs than current production.
Graded broken in: real character. Marks, softened fabric, uneven fade and possibly honest repairs at stress points. This is the grade collectors actually want, because none of it can be faked and no two broken-in pieces look alike. Priced at $79 against an original retail of $139 — 43% below new, for fabric weight and construction current production no longer matches.

Wash cold and hang dry. Duck canvas softens with every wash but hot water and tumble drying will shrink it and stiffen the shell. Spot-clean where you can.
